The future of HEDAC
Over the past 19 years, HEDAC has undergone a transformative journey, driven by our commitment to listening to the needs of the communities we serve. Since our inception in 1999, when our focus was on providing immediate relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch through food, clothing, and toys, we have evolved into an organization with a multifaceted approach to community development.
Our efforts have expanded to encompass various programs, including initiatives to enhance schools across 14 communities through facility repairs, the provision of student supplies, and comprehensive teacher training. Recognizing the critical need to address education beyond the sixth grade, we introduced a scholarship program to prevent students from dropping out. In 2012, we took a significant step forward by establishing Centro de Estrellas, an after-school facility designed to provide a safe haven for children and keep them engaged in constructive activities, thus mitigating the risks associated with street life.
As we look ahead to 2024, the pressing issue of migration underscores the need for sustainable solutions. Our plans for this year involve leveraging the infrastructure and relationships we have cultivated over the years to prepare children for the future. We aim to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among youth, instilling in them a sense of hope and the skills needed to thrive in their own country. By empowering the next generation with the tools for success, we envision a brighter and more prosperous future for the communities we serve.
