HEDAC Culinary Program
The HEDAC culinary program, launched in 2018 was designed to provide children in Honduras with valuable skills and opportunities in the culinary arts. The program continues to empower students with practical cooking techniques, nutritional knowledge, and the confidence to pursue careers in the culinary field. Through a series of hands-on classes and workshops, students learn everything from basic cooking methods to advanced baking and pastry techniques.
HEDAC’s first culinary program cohort, consisting of 18 enthusiastic students, completed the initial class of a 12-course program. This event marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, opening doors to future opportunities in the culinary world.
The importance of culinary education in Honduras cannot be overstated. In a country where many children face economic challenges, gaining culinary skills offers a pathway to employment and self-sufficiency. Moreover, it promotes healthy eating habits and food security within the community.
We are grateful to the Russell Foundation and St. Teresa of Avila in Lincoln Park for their funding and steadfast support.
